140 Proof is an intelligent content-recommender and ad service for the social stream. Our flagship product and primary revenue generator is a high-volume REST API serving hundreds of requests per second to apps on iOS, Android, OS X, Firefox, Chrome, and Windows. 140 Proof is proud that our APIs form the core revenue stream for popular social stream apps like UberTwitter, Echofon, and TweetCaster. We work with Redis, Resque, MySQL, Airbrake / Hoptoad, and Twitter on a daily basis.

We're looking for creative software engineers who love algorithms and large problems like effective data storage, predictive analytics, natural language processing, machine learning, real-time bidding & more. We've raised over $4.5 million in venture capital to develop algorithms to infer a person’s interests based on publicly available Interest Graph. We partner with social stream app developers to deliver relevant, real-time ads that help app developers make money.

We contribute to open source projects daily, including Rails, Unicorn, and the Twitter gem.

We are funded by Blue Run Ventures & Founders Fund, the investors behind Facebook and PayPal.

Our advisors include Ron Conway, Chad Stoller (inventor of FourSquare’s “Mayors”), and Buzz Andersen, the lead iPhone engineer for Square.

Our customers include market innovators like Fedex, Google, CBS Sports, Infiniti, Groupon, Best Buy, and over 2,000 startups and small businesses.

Requirements:

• A college degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Extraordinary software engineering talent
• Ingenuity, creativity, and relentlessness
• Experience building robust web apps (prior start-up experience or open source projects)
• An understanding of the pace of a start-up (and the excitement to jump into it)
• Knowledge of network operations and at-scale web hosting
• Ability to work from our San Francisco or New York offices
• Experience with distributed systems and machine learning a plus
• Proficiency programming in Ruby a plus
• Familiarity with functional or declarative programming languages (OCaml, Erlang) a plus
• The number of years of professional experience you have isn’t important to us
• You should be ready to make this startup the primary focus of your life
